Our 12-Week STEAM & Enterprise Programme
Build an aquaponic system and pitch a start-up social enterprise to industry leaders. This student-led after-school course gives 12-15 year 9 students a chance to develop skills in science and enterprise, offering hands-on experiences of innovative approaches to growing food and social engaged businesses.
After learning about the biochemistry and technology of aquaponics, students will create their own system, before developing a brand and business canvas around it. Our resources help schools to connect with local businesses and universities, offering the chance of running finale events, like in Liverpool where students have been able to pitch to industry professionals at The University of Liverpool and Farm Urban’s underground farm. Through this course students will gain transferable skills, creating further education and employment opportunities, they’ll reconnect with healthy food, be encouraged to make more sustainable choices that respect planetary boundaries and will improve their health and well being.
Designed to be easy and accessible, with no prior knowledge of aquaponics needed, the programme comes with access to an online platform full of useful resources for both students and teachers, giving all the tools students need to lead their own sessions. The online platform provides a collaborative space for students to update on progress and a forum to ask questions.
